WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback.

The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 20th September 2024.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language.

Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Sunsmart

It's that time of year again–time for sun protection.

Being outdoors where students can be active and have fun is great, but being outdoors means students can also be exposed to UV radiation. With UV levels in Victoria now reaching 3 and above, it’s time for everyone to start using sun protection.

It’s time to remind students, staff and families to wear sun protective hats, clothing and apply sunscreen before heading outdoors.

When the UV is 3 or above, use all five forms of sun protection:

  • Slip on sun protective clothing
  • Slop on SPF50 or SPF50+, broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen
  • Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
  • Seek shade
  • Slide on sunglasses

Download the SunSmart Global UV app to check the UV level.

Vaping Reforms

Parents, carers, schools, and community all play an important role in protecting children and young people from, and educating them about, the harmful effects of smoking and vaping. Research from the Royal Children’s Hospital shows many parents and carers are not aware of the harmful effects or how their views about smoking and vaping can impact the likelihood of a young person taking up smoking or vaping.

The Department of Education has developed resources to help you learn more about the health risks of smoking and vaping. The resources include advice about how to talk to children and young people about vaping, and where to get support. To access the resources, go to
https://www.vic.gov.au/smoking-and-vaping-advice-parents.

You can also view
this video on smoking and vaping from experts at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne for health advice and tips for starting a conversation with young people.

Saver Plus

Camps are an amazing opportunity for our students. But they can be stressful for some parents to afford.

If you have a child who may be attending a school camp in 2025. Saver Plus will assist with your saving & budgeting for the upcoming camp.

Saver Plus encourages parents to save $50 a month (for 10 months). Savings are then matched - a free $500 for education costs, making $1,000 potentially available for the school camp.

Families that start saving in August, will have their savings ready to pay their school camp fees in June 2025.

If there are families that don’t have students attending camp they may also still apply for the program and allocate the funds to other education costs.

Saver Plus will chat with families about eligibility:

  • Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
  • Payment from Centrelink and
  • Earning an income (employment, carer’s payment, or child support).

If families would like to check their eligibility and receive a call back please click on this link -  https://www.bsl.org.au/services/saving-and-managing-money/saver-plus/ or call our national number 1300 610 355 and a local coordinator will contact you directly.

Saver plus are also still running regular information sessions for parents/carers every Wednesday that only goes for 15 minutes.
